My trip to Southeast Asia was a "trial" run for school. Some of us were able to take class credit courses during the trip. Others were along just for the fun of it. My professor, Mr. Harris put the trip together. Six of us went from Northwood University, Texas Campus. Their names are Elizabeth (Liz) Ma, Rachael Maza, Aaron Walker, RhoAnn Wallace, Mr. Harris, and myself. We explored the depths of the jungle to the beauty of the Ocean. What an amazing trip we had.
Our tour started out leaving DFW/International Airport the morning of July 14, 2001. We flew to Minneapolis, MN to catch our connecting flight. We got on a 747 plane and left for Tokyo, Japan. We were able to see the Polar Ice Capes from the air. What a beautiful sight! That was the longest flight of my life! Now I know how Rags feels when he flies overseas. When we arrived in Japan, we had an hour lay over before our final destination. We left Japan at 7pm and flew to Bangkok, Thailand. We arrived in Bangkok about midnight, the morning of the 16th, went through customs, and then to claim our luggage. We got to our house at 3am. We stayed two weeks in Thailand. Our nearest town was Pattaya. We did a lot of shopping and eating there.
We left Thailand on Monday afternoon, July 30th. We flew to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam for two days. We were able to ride a "cyclo" around the city that evening and went to dinner. The next day we saw a Rubber Plantation, a Rice Paper Village, and crawled through the "Cu Chi Tunnels". What an incredible historic place this was. We left Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) on the morning of August 1st. We arrived in Hanoi, Vietnam that afternoon. We watched a Vietnamese Water Puppet show that evening and had dinner. The next morning we went to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. Picture taking was not allowed inside. We saw the body of Ho Chi Minh and the grounds he lived on. We also visited the museum named after him. I could not believe the difference in these two cities that are considered one country. We left Hanoi the morning of August 3rd to fly back to Bangkok. We stayed the night in Bangkok and left at 3am to go back to Japan, then Minnesota, and finally home to Dallas.
Please enjoy the pictures that Rags has put on this site for me. As you view the web album, you will find a title followed by a description of who was there. I hope you find my tour as amazing as I did.
